The most recent feedback I got was from a guy who put on 5lbs muscle and lost 10lbs fat in his first 8 weekson the program. The idea and implementation here on GFP has to some degree evolved due to the number of people using it, but it's a very simple and direct process. In general, lifters want to try and add weight to make an immediate difference and it is not uncommon to see people starting with 16.5 lbs/5kg bodyweight first then slowly adding weight to the cycle. I like a slower progression in the initial stages to avoid a sudden spike in size from a short period of time. I do also like to see athletes begin heavier sets during the 12 week cycle for the following 5-6 weeks to ensure adequate amounts of growth are occurring and not an immediate drop in size. As mentioned above, people usually want to add muscle mass to their frames first, which is why I start a 20lb/8kg cycle earlier than 25-30lb/10kg. The Body Cycle After 12 weeks of deca use One advantage to deca is that you are starting much lighter the first few weeks then gradually increasing volume up to 35-50% more than the typical deca user when they reach their initial weight. This is because deca use gives the body time to adapt to the new amount of volume and strength training. By the end of the 12 weeks of deca use, the body may have accumulated a number of extra muscle cells which are more likely to be used in the future by stronger, stronger muscle cells.
